Known for his direct from life approach, Greg is a Tonal Realist oil painter who also tutors and mentors over 70 adult art students per week. 

In 1990 The Gregory R. Smith School of Painters was established with tutoring based on the principles of the old masters and all subject matter direct from life.

40 solo exhibitions, over 170 art awards for still life, portraiture, landscapes, floral and life work.

Convened outdoor painting days and trips for en plein air painters for 26 years.
